Sikhism and its teachings

Today (12 November 2019) marks the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, founder of Sikhism religion. This religion culminated in 16th and 17th centuries and was propagated by the ten gurus (preachers).

It has its own scripture called “Guru Granth Sahib” in which the priceless teachings of many Sikh gurus are included.

On this auspicious occasion, I would like to share some of the valuable teachings which I personally find very useful. Somewhere, I try to follow them in my life too.

  1. Sewa = Every person should try to do selfless service without any expectation of result or reward.

  2. Charhdi Kala = Aim to maintain a mental state of eternal confidence and happiness.

  3. Dasvand = Try to donate 10% of one’s earnings, time and service in the form of Sewa in a gurudwara or for any noble cause.

  4. Panj Dosh = Five major weaknesses present in any human being and can steal their wisdom & patience. They are Kama (lust), Krodh (anger), Lobh (greed), Moh (attachment) and ahankar (conceit).

  5. Naam Japo = Means remember God’s name - not to ask for anything, but to control our inner evils and live a fulfilling life.

  6. Kirat Karo = Earn and make your living honestly, without doing any fraud or cheat.

  7. Vand Chakko = Share whatever extra you have with others and help them - esp. those who are in need.

Here, I’m pasting pictures of Golden Temple (Harmandir Sahib), which is one of the famous shrines of Sikhism. I took these pictures during my visit to this place.

Hi @Nyainurjanah

This pilgrimage is actually connected by a strip of land from one of its side. So, you can say that it is covered entirely by water by its 3 sides.
