Yes, it is a common problem. You can help out by merging them into one. First figure out which one is the one with most reviews and pictures. Make sure they are close and names and categories match. Then you suggest the less important places removed while indicating that is a double. You are then given a list nearby and similar places. Then point to the one with most reviews and pictures. If the primary place is not shown then abort your edit.
This way reviews and photos can be preserved.
If a secondary place has no or almost no pics and reviews I tend to suggest it removed. But merging is better.

@MortenCopenhagen does Google map have the facility to mark a giant building (flat) and its various floors and flat numbers rather than adding all the flat numbers as ADD A NEW PLACE individually? We can see very streamlined tablewise look when clicking on Metro or Railway with proper timing and destination places. I’d like to know any similar approach google map have, like we upload an excel to somewhere that has list of flats/rooms in correct format, so anybody click on that building and you get all the details in a single page?
Please note that private residents flats/apartments should not put on Google Maps.
If there are businesses on many floors there can be very many pins placed on top of a building. And that makes it look very messy. But searching is your friend.
The owners of big buildings (and not local guides) have the opportunity to create indoor Google maps. That might be what you are looking for. Zoom in on a place using this service to see if that is what you need.
