Showing the world through my lens, what the Google local guides program means to me.

Hi, thanks for taking the time to read my post.

I’m Andrae an amateur photographer, food, animal lover and architecture enthusiast. Having been a part of local guides for as long as I can remember has always been a part of my proud accomplishments. I love sharing photos of everyday life, meeting new people and helping grow the amazing google community. Nothing makes me happier than when someone asks me for directions in real life and I can whip out my phone, and say “let me find it for you”. The local guides program to me allows ordinary everyday people to share their world, their cultures, and their lives with others and makes for a more inclusive society bringing together amazing people from all walks of life. Apart from great people, it allows the discovery of great places, I love seeing new additions to google maps and having an opportunity to add things as well. I am incredibly happy to be a part of the local guide program because it isn’t just a way to share but it’s a way to feel as though you make a difference in the world around you, and there’s nothing more exciting than that! Huge inspiration from being a local guide came upon hitting 1 million photo views. I remember I was in the process of trying to figure out whether I wanted to really be a photographer, and I came across this email telling me I had reached 1 million views, it was so exciting I remember sharing it with all my friends, and posting it on my social media. It meant so much to know that people from all over the world had an opportunity to see something I had created and may have in some way benefited from my effort. One thing I’d love to do as a google guide is definitely to encourage more people to participate in this incredibly diverse community, especially persons from my own country Jamaica. There is so much to see and do, especially since we are such a prominent tourist destination. As a local guide, I take pride in making an impact and helping ensure that people who do visit our lovely island have a great time, full of wonder and adventure. Thanks for checking out my post and just a few of my favorite photos, and if you are a photographer then definitely add Jamaica to your list as there are amazing photo opportunities in this small island paradise ?
