I live in an Indonesian country that has a lot of diversity. Each region has its characteristics about how people live their lives. Even if you just move district, maybe the culture is different. Especially if you travel across provinces or islands you will feel a big difference.
So far I have felt life in two different places, namely Nganjuk and Madura Island both of which are in one province even though different islands. and I feel differences in geography, culture, language, morals, and life patterns. I want to show this diversity to people. then in July 2019, I found the Local Guides program which made it possible for me to share this with peoples.
I gradually began to upload photos that show people’s live places to Google Maps.
NGANJUK DISTRICT
Nganjuk located in the lowlands and the mountain, and surrounded by rivers in the lowlands and waterfalls in the highlands. If you are in a mountainous region the air will be low, but when in the lowlands the temperature will rise.
Nganjuk Regency has productive soil conditions and structure for various types of plants, both food crops, and estate crops so that it greatly supports economic growth in agriculture and the majority of people here is the farmer. This soil fertility can occur due to the condition and structure of the productive land which is at the same time supported by the Widas river, the Brantas river, which can irrigate the residents’ fields. The amount of rainfall can also be said to be very high with January as its peak.
The majority of the Nganjuk population is filled by Javanese people. Javanese is a regional language that is used as an everyday language.
MADURA ISLAND
The overall area of Madura Island is approximately 10 percent of the land area of East Java. Surrounded by the sea with a relatively flat topography in the south and increasingly towards the north, there is no noticeable difference in elevation. The temperature here can be hotter than Nganjuk.
It is also a plateau without volcanoes and dryland agriculture. Soil composition and rainfall that are not the same on high slopes are located too much whereas on low slopes are instead lacking thereby causing Madura to lack fertile soil. that does not mean there are no farmers here. But as far as I know, the people here have other alternatives as to the main occupation such as fishermen or brick makers because some of the lands here are very good for making building materials. Sometimes they migrate outside the island to find work.
This island is inhabited by the Madurese. The Madurese are famous for their blunt style of speech, Madurese people are also known to be frugal, disciplined, and work hard. Self-esteem is also most important in the lives of Madurese people. But as long as you are friendly to them they will be very friendly to you.
