A City New to Google Maps
I live in a small city called Shillong in the North Eastern part of India. Over the past decade this once small town grew exponentially as tourism flourished and the economy of our state boomed. Day by day, more tourists were visiting Shillong as it was not only a beautiful city but also a pit stop which was well connected to places like Sohra, Mawlynnong and Dawki - picturesque neighboring villages. However, in Google Maps, there were very few reviews on places to eat (local cuisine), places to stay, tourist attractions and even fewer photos of city hangouts, restaurants, etc.
Time to Get Clicking
Realizing this and having dabbled in Google Maps - I discovered the ‘Local Guide’ program and found that adding photos to places in my town added so much value to these places. People can immediately know about a place, what they serve (especially eating joints) and where they are located.
Proud to be a Local Guide
Today I am proud to say that I have more than 2 Million views on my photos (knowing that these photos are helping people make more accurate decisions about places they visit) and am very happy that tourism in my state of Meghalaya is better than ever. I love adding photos to Google Maps. Thank you Google.
