Should I verify the existence of businesses under construction?

I’m not sure if this will be posted in the right place, so my apoligies if it’s misplaced.

I have a question about verifying edits when contributing. I’m getting a lot of questions about whether businesses that are still being built exist in a particular location. Many of these businesses may have a sign up already, or a “coming soon” banner, but are not yet open for business.

I am tempted to say “No” (the place does not technically exist yet) because there is no option to say “still under construction or remodel” and I fear adding the location will confuse Maps users and direct them to waste their time driving to a store that isn’t open. Yet, at the same time, I can see how verifying the existence would help the “coming soon” business, and perhaps even workers trying the find the construction location.

Which is the best option? Do you think we should add an “under construction/remodel” or “coming soon” descriptor option?

Hello @Heather_feather

Google doesn’t have these options, the best way is to add a missing place when it’s ready for service.

@AbdullahAM Hmmm, I may have been guilty of creating a venue that was under construction. To be fair, I included a photo that it was still under construction.

However, there is a 0.01% chance that the construction may be cancelled. I have encountered this situation at least once. In this case, the venue should be closed / updated.
