Shortcut needed for adding roads on desktop

Hi all,

I have previously shared tips to make edits on Google Maps easier.

Now I would love some assistance.

When I finally find a missing road, I think it takes too many clicks to get started adding the road. It takes a lot of time to repeatedly:

  • Click the hamburger menu
  • Click Edit the map
  • Click Add or fix a road
  • Click Add a road

I would love to have a browser macro to make this go faster. I’m on a Chromebook so browser extension is preferred over PC and iOS programs.

All the best

Hi @MortenCopenhagen

hi all,

I’m working on a MacOs system with chrome. Times ago I tried to use a small sw to record the move of the to create a macro; the same that you are looking for.

I did it but after few hours of usage I understood that I was way more faster than the macro.

My macro was starting from the moment I decide to submit my work, so:

  • Done
  • Submit
  • Done
  • Hamburger menu
  • Edit the map
  • Add a road

Then my mouse pointer is center to the screen and I can start the drawing process.

The process is really slow due to the fact that it is a simulation of the movement of my mouse and, in addition, it do not consider the time delay that can occur sometimes from the “submit” to the “done”.

After reading you post I asked for help about this. I have been told that the solution should be a small program to run a web scraping with Python.

I’m trying to convince my niece to do this for us. If I’ll be able I’ll post this here but, in the meantime, some good programmer that are here in LGC can help to solve this.

Ciao

Interesting, @MarcoDavoli

Let me add that I did try a macro extension for Chrome, but I was unable to make it act on the current page. Instead, it constantly pulled up the place on Maps where I recorded the macro. So completely useless. Or my twerking skills or patience was not up to par.

Fingers crossed we will find a solution.

Cheers

Ich weiß mal wieder nichts mit den ganzen Begriffen anzufangen. Ich habe letztlich eine kleine Straße mit dem Smartphone zugefügt und fand es nicht so schwierig.

Hi @Annaelisa ,

not discussing if it is difficult. We are trying to find a way to made it easer and faster.

When you do 400 and more submission a day the “repeating process” is really annoying and also time consuming.

Any idea / macro that can shortener our process is really welcome.

Ciao

Hi @MortenCopenhagen

There is a faster way already to add or edit a road. Just right click on the map to open this menu and select “Report a data problem”:

(This choice is only available on countries that can be edited)

It will open this menu where you can click “Add of fix a road”:

And then it opens the road editor. It only takes one right click and two left clicks.

Brilliant, @L-C

It saves one of four steps.

Thanks

@L-C THANK YOU! Wow, where have you been all year during our TRAC events with this crucial information?

@Lukas_1 did you know about this?

@MortenCopenhagen I was sure that the title image for your road editing post said, “Marco Needed For Adding Roads” — and there was @MarcoDavoli right at the top of the comments.

Hi @JustJake ,

I did in fact know about this, but I’m too busy to add roads these days  .

Looking forward to a macro though, that would be awesome!
