Shilin or Stone Forest in Chine

Shilin or Stone Forest is a collection of karst formations located in the Shilin Yi Autonomous Region of Yunnan Province, China, which is located about 130 kilometers from the provincial capital, Kunming. The rocks are so tall, thin and very much like petrified trees, giving the impression that it is indeed a stone forest.
The stone forest is divided into seven parts: a small and large stone forest, the Naigu stone forest, the Qifeng cave and the Jiyun cave, the long lake and the moon lake, and the Da Dieshui waterfall. In addition, Shilin is divided into aboveground and underground parts.
In 2007, Shilin didn’t get around UNESCO World Heritage. Two parts of the attraction, the “rock forest” of Naigu and the “village” of Suogei, were included in the list as one of the parts of the Karst sediments of South China. South Chinese karst located in the provinces of Yunnan, Guangxi and Guizhou became known for its karst topography, of which the area called the Shilin Stone Forest is a part. In addition to it, the natural areas of Libo and Oolong are also included in the South Chinese karst.
