As I drive through Ikeja morning after morning at about 4:30am, I find the most heart-wrenching reality hit me like a bullet from a shotgun. I see people sleeping on street corners, bus stops, shop floors, car tops, literally everywhere that has some form of hard top.
It’s then that I suddenly realize the home truth about the homelessness situation in Lagos as a cosmo city. It’s tough because these are the people who get up, go ahead and go about their daily lives serving you and I in the cabs, markets and shops, just like nothing happened the previous night. A few things handled differently would have made me one of them, and maybe everyone of us knows someone who is or was one of them, or who narrowly escaped
These people need a warmer place at night, they need shelter from the rain, they need protection from harm. They need us…the few of us who can be their voice and create awareness about their plight. With a committed group, there’s nothing that can’t be done
I’m passionate about this cause, and seeking partners to join and make a difference for these dear ones
