Shechen Monastery was built in 1996. It is a Tibetan monastery that belongs to Nyingma one of the oldest schools of Buddhism in Tibet, located in Bodh Gaya. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche decided to establish a Nyingma monastery in Bodh Gaya which is the ancient branch of Tibetan Buddhism. This branch of Buddhism was named Nyingma based on translated texts of the 8th century. Dilgo Khyentse’s dream came true in the form of Shechen Monastery by the efforts of Rabjam Rinpoche. There is a temple with Buddha images for meditation, practice and prayer of the monks. There is also accommodation for the monks to live in. Nyingma school is one of the ancient schools of Tibet and monks are awarded Nyingma after year’s study. Not open for visitors all the time, time table is available at the main gate.
