She Leads: Devi – A Leader Who Knows the Power of Patience and Positivity

Hello Local Guides

Today, I’m happy to shine a light on one of the most loved and inspiring women in our community @Ddimitra (Devi)

Devi is a freelancer based in Jakarta, Indonesia. She’s a solo traveler, craft lover, and someone who always follows her own path. With a strong sense of curiosity and courage, she explores the world and takes on new challenges with confidence.

When and how did you become a Local Guide?
I joined in 2017 after receiving an invitation email from Google Maps. I was curious about the program and wanted to try it out.

What inspires you to contribute to Local Guides Connect?
At first, I was motivated by the idea of reaching higher levels. But after joining the community and connecting with other Local Guides, I felt inspired by their stories and learned many new ways to contribute.

**What is your favourite type of contribution? **
I enjoy making videos, few years back I also loved contributing 360 photos. Videos help people see the details of a place more clearly, which makes it easier for them to decide if they want to visit. It feels like sharing a real experience.

How do you define leadership, and what does it mean to you?
I found many leadership fails. But in my office, it’s not just about being smart in that field. I found leadership is being soft-spoken and willing to learn from downline and staff. And food and gifts are the key to hearts. If the stomach is full, people want to hear us freely. My boss always gave me lots of food and snacks, and we were happy about it.
As a manager since 4 years for an insurance company and before that, a manager in other fields. It’s hard to maintain people, but I always did what my boss taught me — lead through stomach and gift. Even a small gift can melt hearts. Hahaha…

In what ways do you lead or make an impact outside of Local Guides Connect?
I mostly lead at my workplace, where I guide and support my team. Outside of work, I love interacting with my community, conducting meetups, and exploring new places together. While I’m not in a formal leadership role, I enjoy contributing and connecting with others in meaningful ways.

Who inspires you the most, and why?
At Local Guides, I’m inspired by @RahmatHarmanP . He’s a great writer and a dedicated Local Guide. Even when his account was suspended, he remained active in the community and always willing to help others. Internationally, I’m inspired by @TravellerG . He’s generous in sharing his knowledge about photography, and at his age, he’s still active and brilliant.

How do you think we can inspire more women to be a part of our community?
This is a tricky one at the moment. Maybe we could add more women in our World Female Local Guides group and add more women to the community. Creating a stronger, supportive network for women to connect and inspire each other could make a big difference.

Have you faced any challenges? How did you overcome them?
Everyone faces challenges, whether at work or in personal life. For me, it’s been the same. But I believe every challenge has an end you just need to get through it and wait. In the end, you’ll always see the good that came from it.

What barriers do you face to contribute in the community as a woman, and how do you overcome them?
At the moment, I don’t see any barriers in the community, as Local Guides is open-minded and welcoming to women.

What message would you like to share with women around the world?
You are beautiful, you are worthy, and you are unstoppable.

Devi’s journey reminds us all that leadership comes in many forms, whether through our work, community, or personal challenges. As women, we have the strength, creativity, and determination to break through any barriers. Let’s continue to support, inspire, and uplift each other every step of the way.

thanks for sharing it @FalguniP and well done @Ddimitra . Good to know she’s active and inspiring many other. I think the philosophy of stomach and gifts are quite familiar for many of us, I believe. Although perhaps at certain professional fields it can be a bit tricky hehe..
