Sharing travel and history is my passion

Google Maps is a great and convenient place to share about new discoveries in Houston and around the globe. Personally I prefer off the beaten path locations and/or places with historical significance. For example the Lesser Free Trade Hall (the left side (pun intended)) of the The Free Trade Hall in Manchester UK. The Lesser was home to the “Gig that Changed the World” on 4 June 1976. It wasn’t the Sex Pistols’ first concert but one of the first outside of London. The reason it was such a big deal wasn’t the size of the audience, rather who was in the 40 person audience. Members of the Buzzcocks (Howard and Pete who were the organizers of the gig), Joy Division, The Fall, Steven Patrick Morrisey (Smiths), Simply Red and Factory Records founders Tony Wilson and Martin Hannet. Plus many more who claimed to be there (hahaha). This is a historical place in my mind. Also this was the place where Bob Dylan played an electric guitar after Newport to many boos from folkies. The Free Trade Hall was built on the site of a sad chapter in UK history, The Peterloo Masacre. This topic will be a futre post.
