I live in Delft, The Netherlands and work for the university of technology.
Every day I meet new people from which most are international students or guest scientists.
I know my environment quite well and I like to eat orientally.
The first thing I hope, when meeting new people, is that we share the same idea about the importance of good food.
It mostly creates a great vibe when exchanging restaurants and dishes with people who do like quality.
It is actually a very interactive theme because of Google Maps.
Before travelers arrive in The Netherlands they’ve already did some fine research on restaurants to go to.
So often I get great experiences back from students who just arrived here a week ago.
I think this is an interesting topic. Our Dutch cuisine is far from exciting, mainly because we where/are a country of traders, not a food culture kinda country. Just eat your food and back to work mentality…
But if you’d like to be a good trader, you have to treat your relations well. And in my opinion this is where the magic happens. A lot of Dutchies happen to be very empathic and care about their visitors. So we preferably share their food with us, instead of our food with them. And of course we also introduce people to our traditional Dutch recipes but this is not key.
So as a local guide I have my footprint with the work I do. Sharing reviews, pictures, stars etc. But my handprint might be bigger.
I guide people to restaurants, coffee shops(not the dutch ones) or bakeries, specified on their backgrounds and origin.
With the knowledge of their culture reviews will be finer.
I think that will improve quality and extends diversity in our landscape of international cuisines!
