As someone that has moved countries twice in the last 3 years, I spend a lot of my time engrossed in Google Maps. Mainly because my sense of direction is 50/50 but I also use Google Maps to help me explore new cities and to research new places of interest, restaurants, pubs, cafes, parks, attractions etc.
I cannot emphasise how useful and satisfying it has been being able to read reviews, tips and view photos that other Local Guides have provided and I too feel strongly re giving back to the community. However, I have also encountered quite a few reviews that have been hastily put together without much thought and wanted to emphasise the importance of sharing useful information.
It is important to provide reviews that are authentic and help give an accurate depiction of the place. I also like it when Local Guides provide helpful tips eg. Booking in advance or how to enter a place. A picture is also definitely worth a thousand words and I cannot emphasise this enough!
So just to recap, sharing IS most definitely caring. But you can show more of your caring-ness by ensuring your reviews:
- Provide authentic feedback
- Useful tips that might help someone plan/make a decision
- Recommendations on what to do for future visitors
- PHOTOS
Thanks for reading and hope this was helpful.
