"Sharing is caring" in Google Maps, why?

Hello everyone! This is my first post here and I will take the opportunity to present myself and let you know “the why” around my beginning in the Local Guides community and the motivation behind keep doing more and more reviews.

My name is Jose, I’m 27 and I come from Spain (specifically, from Úbeda, a World Human Heritage city that I highly recommend you to visit). I have lived in several cities (Granada, Madrid, Barcelona…) but I decided to make some changes in my life and, at this moment, I’m working and living in Copenhagen, one of the most amazing cities in the world. People, food, culture, buildings… It has almost everything, except my family (but the city makes this drawback easier!).

I remember the first time when someone close to me asked: “Why do you like reviewing places?” “You waste a lot of time and you don’t get anything back”. He couldn’t be more wrong… We have been very lucky seeing how this current connected world has evolved during the last 15-20 years. How many of you looked for PC games bugs or cheats? How many of you tried to find the correct answer for your homework? Step by step, Internet forums and websites began to grow and grow and since I couldn’t make a contribution during that time because of several reasons, I felt the need of giving back all the things that I could enjoy during my childhood and adolescence.

That’s why I love sharing my opinion and reviews on Google Maps. I thing that it’s a great opportunity to help people deciding where to go if they are in a rush or don’t know where to eat (I think that we, as a community, have solved a lot of familiar arguments around deciding where to eat). However, I think that there is one thing even more important than this. A lot of new businesses need this (our) help sometimes and they are starting to ask for reviews so that their visibility increases. Yes, you can give a huge tip showing that you had a great experience, but a good and useful review will bring much more money and reputation that will grow the business.

And that’s all! Let me know your thoughts about this opinion and how you started in this world

Great argument… And awesome places you’ve lived in. Copenhagen is one of the coolest cities I’ve been fortunate to visit. Keep it up.

Thank you so much!
