I like traveling and photography. I also like to share my travel photos on Google Map, because I get a lot of useful information from Google Map that others share. So I also hope that some of my pictures and information can provide some useful reference and help for others.
The Harz Mountain, not far from city Hannover where I live, the only mountainous region in northern Germany, is a good place for tourism, vacation and photography all year round. I will always be happy to go to there, spend time walking between the mountain paths and catch the wonderful colors of the sun at dawn and at sunset.
The Harz Mountain, a nature reserve across the Harz National Park, with its highest peak of 1,141 m at Brocken, is so beautiful all year round. Here one can behold the real nature – from mountain range, deep valleys, high altitude woods, to mysterious caves and clear waters of mountain lakes and waterfalls, swamps, rivers and hot springs. Besides it is a wonderful place for sailing, fishing and diving in summer, and ice skating, cross-country skiing and snowboarding in winter. It is said that the tales of witches have their origin here, too. In summer people go hiking in the mountain, and in winter it is a paradise for skiers. If you are a photographic artist visiting the peak of Brocken, don’t miss the Harz narrow-gauge steam train, which still uses coal as before to give power to travel all the way from the hillside jungle to the Brocken peak (1142m above sea level ) and return. Of course, you can also walk up the mountain. The landscape is charming along the way. Traveling along the lush virgin forests, swamps and overlooking streams at your feet, you would with great certainty capture many fascinating scenes.
In the Harz, one can find many old half-timbered houses of the medieval period of Harz, as well as romantic towns, old castles and wooden-framed buildings with local folks styles. Among the most famous - the so-called UNESCO World Heritage towns - are Goslar, Wernigeoder, Quedlinburg.
If you stroll through the stone streets in towns of Goslar, Wernigerode, and Quedlinburg, you would feel like you were back in the Middle Ages. On both sides of the narrow street old-fashioned half-timbered houses of the Middle Ages were built in pictureque disorder. They are beautifully designed and are quite colorful and in various shape. On the hill are a number of medieval castles, of the Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance style. All these are what photographic artists would love to see. Sunrise colours or sunset glow will create enormous excitement as well as passion on them.
I hope that this brief introduction serves as a small tip to people who may want to visit the Harz and that people find their trip to the Harz is a worthwhile and rewarding experience full of fun and excitement.
