Sharing Hidden Gems: Galapagos Islands

One of my biggest passion and why I sharing the places what I knew when I travel its to tell you about the hidden gems of each of the countries. Those gems that travelers cant miss and that are not as well known, in those places of the world impressive and very little explored.

On this occasion, the Galapagos Islands, a paradise on earth that every human being should know about natural beauty, its diversity of flora and fauna and because it has been important in the history of humanity.

Galapagos Islands in Ecuador, is located about 1000 km from the continental equator, 13 islands that form an impressive natural ecosystem that I had never seen before.

These islands are famous. Charles Darwin started the whole evolutionary theory called “The Origin of Species”.

It is only possible to reach these islands by plane and direct from continental Ecuador, Guayaquil or Quito. Since you arrive, the variety of ecosystems that you can find in such a small place is impressive. You can observe semi-desert ecosystems to more tropical ecosystems.

You definitely have to come to Galapagos if you love three things: nature, animals and beaches.

I was impressed by the number of animals you can see on the islands. First of all if you are a bird lover, this is an excellent place for many different birds, there are more than 18 endemic species in the region, from blue footed boobies to penguins! (They are the only penguins that exist in the northern hemisphere).

But if you love aquatic animals, they can be used with sea lions and even swim and play with them. You will see a variety of fish and if you snorkel it is a spectacular event. On the beaches you can swim with defenseless small sharks and manta rays. You can observe sea turtles and marine iguanas in their natural habitat. At sea you can get to see dolphins, whales and any other exotic animal that you can imagine.

The giant tortoises are amazing in Galapagos, it is an animal that you can only see in 2 islands of the world and that is really impressive. In all the islands you can find ranches that have giant tortoises in total freedom and in their natural habitat.

The beaches are excellent, there are some islands that are totally uninhabited and where you can find beaches just for you with crystal clear water, animals and white sand.

In Santa Cruz, is the turtle bay, a beach with a white sand and a completely transparent blue water. Here you can find some endemic iguanas of the region, surf and swim with small sharks.

In general all landscapes are beautiful, the volcanoes, animals, beaches, sports and activities that can be found elsewhere, but in this hidden gem is an experience that you definitely have to do at some point in your life.
