Share a place from Maps Directly to Local Guides Connect

Sharing a map link in a Connect post is cumbersome for many Local Guides.

Some LGs often forget to include a map link in their Connect post.

The following process makes it easy, as 1-2-3 :magic_wand:

Step :zero:

Open the LG Connect website in your mobile browser, preferably Chrome.

Then select ‘Install and Create Shortcut’ from the browser menu.

Step :one:

Open Google Maps and locate the place.

Step :two:

From the panel, click the ‘Share’ icon.

Step :three:

From the apps to share, select Local Guides Connect.

Step :four:

The splash screen for LG Connect will appear for a while.

Step :five:

Connect will ask what you’d like to do with the Maps link.

Select New Topic.

Step :six:

On the next screen, pick the category as ‘Google Maps Contribution Story’.

Also pick the appropriate tags.

Choose the country.

Step :seven:

:smiling_cat_with_heart_eyes: Voila…!

Now you are ready to create your Connect post with the link from Maps inserted.

Add more photos and context to the post.

:flexed_biceps: Benefits

  1. Can add group photos :white_check_mark: that are not allowed on Maps.
  2. Can add selfies :white_check_mark: which are not allowed on Maps.
  3. Can add photos not directly related to the place :white_check_mark: like the surrounding landscape.
  4. Can add tips like how to reach there :white_check_mark: which we usually do not include on Maps.
  5. Add information like where else to go if the place is not open or too crowded :white_check_mark: which we usually do not include in Maps reviews.
  6. Add related information like where to eat or stay :white_check_mark: which we usually do not add in a Maps review.
  7. Also add nearby attractions for this place :white_check_mark: which we do not add to a Maps review.

Try these steps and tell me if it worked for you :+1:

Share the link to your Connect post using this method in the comments below.

Before that, tell me…
Did you notice…?

 My time of writing :alarm_clock:
 The signal strength on my phone :satellite_antenna:

@TusharSuradkar Thank you, sir, for sharing these new tricks! They make it much easier for us to post on the Connect platform. Thanks a lot for making things so simple and convenient for us!

Looking forward to reading your post using this time=saver technique.

I wanted to try it out just to see how it works, but after I tapped the Share button, the Local Guides Connect icon wasn’t among the available options. I guess this new feature hasn’t reached our region yet.
So if I decide to write an article about a place, I’ll just stick to the good old copy-and-paste:slightly_smiling_face:

Thank you for trying out this method @Khatira_SM

For this option to be available, you must first open the Connect website in your mobile browser, preferably Chrome, and from the browser menu, select ‘Install and create Shortcut’.

Oh, you mentioned this at the beginning of the article — I just missed that step. I tried it now, and yes, the icon I needed appeared for me too. Thanks for the tip!

Hello dear friend @TusharSuradkar
I tested your method, explained in the Tutorial…
It works perfectly… you are right.

For me, I got one more option screen and that is given below:

However, I like to copy the Share LINK and Hyperlink it to the text in my post.

Thanks for sharing this
Most sincerely
:handshake::bouquet::folded_hands:

Thank you @TusharSuradkar sir This trick is very useful :ok_hand:

Thank you immensely for trying out the method, @TravellerG
That is a wonderful suggestion :+1:

I have shared this with the LG Team via the Feedback Form.

This form is strictly for LG Connect forum feedback, and not for Google Maps, though.

If implemented, it will be an awesome feature to use.

Thanks for the feedback, dear @Ramanna
Hope it worked well for you :+1:

Please share soon the link of the post that you published to Conncet using this method.

wow…!
That is amazing, @Annaelisa

Typing on a mobile phone is not my forte
Aiming at a single letter on the tiny screen is challenging for me

I almost always use a desktop computer with a physical keyboard with larger keys to press.

But this method is unfortunately available only on a mobile phone :face_holding_back_tears:

Das kann ich sehr gut nachvollziehen, @TusharSuradkar, da Männerhände im Allgemeinen größer sind als Frauenhände.:hugs:

Terima kasih banyak atas informasi dan tipnya Bapak @TusharSuradkar . :folded_hands:t2::folded_hands:t2::folded_hands:t2:

Very helpful and easy to understand tutorial @TusharSuradkar Thanks for sharing

Thank you for the appreciation @Ssiddharth2000
I hope you get a chance to try it soon if you use a mobile device :+1:
