Servus from Munich & hello everyone. I am Monica Kamel, your local Munich Google guide.
Google local guide program was my ticket to get inspired, motivated and get to explore the new place i called home over 3 years ago, Munich.
I moved to Munich having no clue how I will fit in. I have always been very fascinated and inspired by the culture, the people, the new language, the different ways of living and doing things. I decided to take it all in, embrace it all and get to know Germany better. The German culture taught me to drill more in research, particularly other peoples’ reviews for everything you buy, visit or book. While I have been travelling the world and collecting memories all over the globe, using my google map timeline & places when i moved to Munich I received the local guide invitation and it changed my life. Having embraced the German technique of review hunting, motivated me to also contribute to other peoples’ experience by checking my review.
I decided to not only inspire myself but the huge expat community here, invite them to get out there, embrace the new culture, the new norms and try different flavours and feel like home. I have been making lists for different trips, different themes and topics for myself or for friends. With the local guide program I have been motivated and happy to be the one who suggested new places to try. The more comfortable i got in Munich, the more people I knew, the less time I had. I started to cherish more and more the time I went out with friends and family after work and during the weekend and decided it should always be memorable, exciting and new!
I am also a gamer, so having the badges, points and other people to follow has been inspirational and motivating to continue my hunt for new places, getting out of my comfort zone and levelling up!
I have to say that the local guide program, is now part of my personality and lifestyle. I am very proud to announce it to friends and share my lists to them during a dinner or a coffee. I would be honoured to join the event and meet all the other awesome local guides and top it up a notch!
