Separate category for ladies' salons and unisex salons

In India, salons are basically classified into two types: unisex salons and ladies’ salons. Some owners/local guides explicitly mention it in name of the business, while others don’t as the name itself doesn’t specify whether it’s unisex or ladies only
At present, there is no functionality in Maps to differentiate between the two unless it’s mentioned in the name of the business. Most often, the shopfront sub-heading has it mentioned but since it is not in the main name, it is difficult to distinguish. So, I feel it is important to add a feature which can explicitly mention the type of salon or having a separate category would also be helpful.
As far as men’s salons are concerned, they are currently categorised as Barber shop, while women’s salons are categorised as beauty salons. Sometimes also categorised as hair salons.
I would love to hear your thoughts on this.

Thank you for sharing your perspective on this, @virendrasawant . I understand that there may be frustration around the lack of attention given to categories specific to non-Western countries on Google Maps. It’s important for the Maps team to consider the needs and preferences of all users, regardless of their location.

I suggest continuing to provide feedback and ideas like these here, as they may not be aware of all the categories needed in specific regions. They even removed the Idea Exchange section from here. While it may take time for them to implement changes, it’s important to keep the conversation going and advocate for improvements that will benefit both users and businesses in India.

@Hope thanks for understanding the concern. I don’t understand why they removed Idea Exchange. Having a forum where people can share and discuss their thoughts/ideas will be very helpful. Like the one I mentioned, there would be many things which may be specific to a particular country or a region which local guides should voice out. Not having a proper forum to discuss local issues or pain points would only dilute the purpose of becoming a ‘local’ guide.
