Seeing the blues in San Sebastian, Spain.

In January of 2019, I was in Bilbao to see the Guggenheim. I had an extra day and decided to catch a bus for the one hour ride northeast to San Sebastian. A lovely beach town that reminded me of Paris, justifiably famous for the many Basque restaurants there.

I happened to arrive on the day of their annual drum festival. I don’t exactly know the history behind it, but there was a parade for kids in the afternoon to march in costume playing drums or a few brass players. Basically a drum and bugle corps.

Then at night, the adults walk throughout the city, stopping in front of the various buildings to serenade the occupants to some very loud drumming.
