Searching for Authentic Foods Across America

Let’s say you’ve moved into a new city or are simply visiting one. But what do you do when you want to experience the authentic culinary experience of that region or that of another culture? You turn to Google Maps, of course!

When you simply search for “Mexican” restaurants, you get a whole range of different interpretations of what that is, from Taco Bell and Chipotle to On the Border and the golden finds like Taqueria la Hacienda. I love Tex-Mex, as well as fusions. I really do. But I also sometimes just want those truly authentic Mexican dishes from carne asada tacos with fresh jalapeños and salsa verde to pollo con mole.

That’s where Google Maps comes in. With an army of Local Guides and contributors, you are able to sift through your search results, reading reviews and looking at photos/videos to assess it will satisfy your taste buds (and ultimately your belly). You are also able to tell when the restaurant is the busiest and if they have some special reservation that’s required.

Check out my curated list, albeit an ever-growing one, of authentic Mexican restaurants across the U.S.A.

Since you’re new to the community, you might want to share a bit more about yourself and get to know others in our monthly Introduce Yourself - June 2019. You can also take a look at these 14 helpful tips for using Connect, and What are Connect topics?

I’m going to move your post to the Local Stories section on Connect where the Local Guides from all around the world share their local stories and inspiration why they like to be Local Guides and how they contribute to Google Maps. I will also add a Food & Drink tag.
