Sea lions in La Chocolatera

In January I visited La Chocolatera, you will wonder what is La Chocolatera? Well, to answer this, I will explain: this site is called Chocolatera because when the ocean currents collide, they lift dust and sand from the bottom of the sea. Besides, when the sea hits the rocks, the noise and movement resembles when the chocolate boils.

Near La Chocolatera is Punta Brava, what is Punta Brava? It is an area of rocks where there is a colony of sea lions that was created naturally in 1997-1998 due to the phenomenon of El Niño.

That’s right, we observed sea lions very close, it was fantastic, we were fascinated. Here you will also see pelicans, terns and iguanas. It’s amazing to take panoramic pictures of Salinas, beach of Santa Elena.

About 3 hours it took us to get to Santa Elena from Guayaquil by bus, it is totally worth it. In Salinas, you can find several taxis to La Chocolatera. I totally recommend your visit and suggest you use sunscreen or cap.

I learned a lot in this experience and I am happy to share it with you through Local Guides Connect.
