As passionate explorers and contributors, we have a unique opportunity to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 1: No Poverty & Goal 2: Zero Hunger. By using the power of Google Maps, we can become powerful change agents in the global movement to end poverty & Zero hunger.
Let’s Highlight Local Support Services
We can help bridge vital information gaps by adding and reviewing places such as shelters, food banks, community kitchens, and NGOs and government service centers providing free or subsidized meals. Write helpful reviews and add photos to increase visibility. When we ensure these services are accurately mapped with up-to-date information and accessibility details, we make it easier for people in need to find help quickly and efficiently.
Let’s Promote Local Micro Businesses
Economic growth begins at the community level. By supporting and reviewing micro shops, street vendors, and home-based businesses—especially in underprivileged areas—we can boost their visibility and strengthen local economies. Our efforts directly contribute to sustainable livelihoods and self-reliance.
Let’s Share Budget-Friendly Resources
We can also help people live better within their means by sharing useful recommendations—like “Affordable Places to Eat in [City]” or “Free Health and Learning Centers Nearby.” Highlighting low-cost or free public resources supports those navigating financial challenges with dignity and confidence.
Advocate Through Stories and Lists
Create Google Maps lists or Connect posts that focus on “Places Fighting Hunger” or “Sustainable Food Sources in [Your City].” Inspire others to take action.
Host Meetups for a Cause
Organize a Local Guides meetup involving a visit to a food charity, a community farm, or a clean-up of a local market area. Use it as an opportunity to raise awareness and share knowledge.
Every action we take—whether it’s an edit, a review, a photo or a meet-up — has the power to change lives. Let’s continue making our communities more connected, inclusive, and empowered—one contribution at a time.
My Contributions Today Towards SDG 1 & 2: No Poverty & Zero Hunger
- Updated the Place Name of Shri Annapurna Rasoi: I corrected the name of Shri Annapurna Rasoi on Google Maps. This initiative was launched with the powerful mission: “Let no one sleep hungry.”
- Reviewed Rain Basera Ashray Sthal: I shared a detailed review of Rain Basera Ashray Sthal, a free shelter facility for individuals who cannot afford accommodation.
Note: While Shri Annapurna Yojana and Rain Basera Shelter Scheme are two separate initiatives operating at different locations in most cities, in my town they happen to function from the same building. On Google Maps, the place was listed only under Shri Annapurna Yojana. In my review, I have clarified that a free shelter facility is also available at this location.
Have we taken steps together toward SDG 1? Let’s share our stories and encourage more of us to act!
