Saying Goodbye to my Google Pixel

Hello everyone! Happy new day, new week, new year!

First and foremost, I have so missed you all. It has been a hectic and unexpected, whirlwind yet very interesting past 365+ days! I cannot even begin to explain, but I hope we are doing well? Or at least trying our best each day? This is a reminder to make sure to take care of yourself and your health - mental, physical, emotional, social. You can’t achieve all the greatness in the world without being at your healthy best!

Second, I had an emotional moment earlier this year – which some may resonate with, some may not. But it meant a lot to me!

Nearly four years ago, I and 199 other local guides were gifted a Google Pixel 3 at Local Guides Connect 2019. It came as a huge surprise and no one expected it! It was a touching moment for me, because my phone had literally broken (but still functioning) on my way to the airport heading to the conference! I mean, can you imagine?! I was so grateful to the Local Guides team and just for the whole experience.

Anyway, earlier this year, I had to say goodbye to the phone as it was having some issues. Got wet, fell down several times, etc. Though I could have fixed it, the Pixel is not in the Nigerian market so the original parts are not readily available neither is there a store, and I didn’t want to play a game of chance. Anyone who knows me, knows I was extremely loyal to that phone, had arguments with other phone brand users, debates, competitions. Like you could not tell me it was not the best phone in the world! LOL right?! :joy:

So in memory of my Google Pixel, I would like to appreciate and express some of the wonderful things I accomplished quite literally with my phone:

  • Published my first book “Exulansis” with all original photos by me taken with the phone.

  • Got photography recommendations and opportunities due to the amazing pictures. I turned them down, because I’m not looking to go into photography professionally.

  • Set a personal record for the longest time I’ve been with the same phone.

  • Published my second book “As You Wish” with all the writings done directly from the phone.

  • Won many debates on which phone brand is the best (yes even some loyal iPhone and Samsung users did end up agreeing with me).

  • Got others to purchase the Pixel due to my love for the phone as well as the quality of the phone, images and interestingly enough, battery life.

The list could go on, but thought to share! Is there any technology you own or have owned that has positively impacted your life? Share below

P.S. I honestly didn’t know which pictures to share from the past 3+ years, so here is one of me from 2022. Here is the storyteller behind the story! :see_no_evil: I’m listening to/staying tuned for your responses!

Cheers,

Chinonso

damage photo colorize black and white photo do this work manually in photoshop I am surprised to see many AI based tools in which this work is done very easily when I work on a photo manually When I start doing, it is as if time stops, I am lost until the photo is fully formed, my mind, my eyes are not satisfied

@ChinonsoOnukwugha I can totally relate to this, saying bye to a phone that has served as a long time companion can be hard

Hey Chinonso, so sad to hear about your Pixel. I still have mine but the system update has expired last year. You could try to see if Google Stores could help fix it for you. You could be lucky. I got my Pixel swapped when it had battery issues last year.

@ChinonsoOnukwugha I replaced mine with… Another pixel lol. I got a 6 when they came out. Sorry to hear yours is sad. My old one is now with my youngest who has loaded some other breed of Android on it so it gets updated

@Ghanshyamkumawat I don’t understand this comment, but thank you for your response.

@UdokaObis Agreed!

@EmekaUlor Aww I wish I knew this earlier! I was in Abuja and Owerri at the time and no Google stores around.

@Emehslaw Thank you.

@PaulPavlinovich That’s fantastic - I’m happy for you aha! I was in Canada when the 6 came out and it was always out of stock! I searched for months in different stores both in Canada and U.S. but I guess it was really popular in Montreal and New York. :sweat_smile:

Hello @ChinonsoOnukwugha , nice to see you in this post. A post that is really meaningful for the 199 that together with you had the opportunity to reach the biggest (and last) edition of Connect Live.

I am responding to your post using my Pixel 3 XL, a mobile that I received together with you.

My previous phone had a lot of issues too, and I was thinking about to change it once in California. Fortunately I decided to do this after the event. Incredible, don’t you agree?

And yes, I never used the same phone for a so long time (we are very close to Four years).

Congratulations for your books, I will have to search for them.

A big hug from Italy
