Say something about photo pop up

Is there any way to disable this brand new feature of “say something about this photo.” It’s brand new for me and pops up every single time I try to add a photo. To me it’s a really bad feature, very distracting, and makes photo uploading longer.

Perhaps this feature has been around longer, but I just noticed it today and it’s on every single upload !

Any way to disable. I personally will never use this feature

Dear @StevenBerlin ,

‘Say something about your photos’ is optional, you do not mandatorily need to provide a text here but if you provide text about your photo, you will get extra 10 points as it is considered as Caption.

Secondly, this option comes only when you try to upload photo through Update tab for a specific POI. This option was there earlier also.

If you do not want this, you can directly go to the POI and through Photos tab, you can add your photo. This way, you will not get any such pop up.

Lastly, there is no way as of now to disable this, if you go through Update tab rather this is a feature which helps LG to highlighted specifics about photo and the location.

Hope this addresses your query.

JAI HO!!!

No this is not the case. I never use the update feature. I only select the photos tab and add photo. This is where I am getting this annoying pop message every time. Any other thoughts?

Could you share the screenshot @StevenBerlin .

@Kumaarsantosh

Sure screenshots coming I hope. This is not a good feature shrug.

And then

Thanks @StevenBerlin for sharing screenshots.

Are you saying ‘after clicking on Add photo in screenshot 1, you are getting screenshot 2?’

If so, it is unlikely the case as screenshot 2 comes only when you click on Updates.

I have tested this for the location you shared as https://maps.app.goo.gl/xCidyvwzkPhNAnhv6 and I did not find such message as shown in screenshot 2 in your post.

Request you to check it once again.

Why would I make this up? Yes, I click on add photo, then the second SS appears with the pop up. I never use anything other than ADD PHOTO. I hope I am clear here. This just started happening today to me!

Very interesting find, @StevenBerlin

Thanks a bunch for reporting this

It will be interesting to learn if this is a limited test or something all of us will face/enjoy.

I too think I will find it annoying and wish for a disable setting.

Cheers

Hi Morty… it is NOT a good change lol. Very very annoying and time consuming

Yes, but 10 points will be tempting to many of us.

If it has started just from today @StevenBerlin then it must be something different than Updates tab.

If it is there for every photo/video we contribute for a specifc POI, certainly it is annoying but seems its optional.

@StevenBerlin

To night I uploaded 14 new photos to Google Maps. Some via share to Google Maps from Google Photos and some by finding the pin manually on Google Maps and then Add a photo.

Both methods worked as expected, so Say something has not yet reached my area and app.

All the best

Morten

Good to hear. Lucky You. This is a big problem imo. Still there on every upload. I have noticed if you scroll just a tad to view the photos on the bottom half, the thumbnail of the selected photo can no longer be seen. So not only is this more time consuming but it’s more difficult since you can’t see the photo u selected. My gosh I hope this is not a permanent change!

Hey @StevenBerlin , I know I’ve seen that second screen before but not in a long time, so that definitely does seem kind of odd. I tried adding photos the same way you do and I got a different screen after, asking me to describe the dish, instead.

Have you tried another workflow for adding photos? Like sharing to Google Maps from your photo gallery?

I have always uploaded photos via mobile phone and add photos. Years and years and now this. I don’t really plan on adding them in a different way.

The food question is normal in case you are adding a food dish

@MortenCopenhagen

This problem suddenly stopped today for me. When I go to upload photos now there is no more message to say something about my photo. What a relief. Just reporting in here.

Others have reported this too. Clearly, Google Maps is still working on this and a different version with better wording and naming could still be implemented. We can only guess.
