Yes, all the time. Earlier our lists were public. Not any more. So creating lists because you want to be helpful to others is a misunderstanding in my experience. To share a list you need to make the link available to your target audience. Like on Facebook, paid advertisement, or in a chat group. Even Google Search will not index Google Maps Lists.
When planning a group vacation I share the route, and Maps lists with hotels and potential lunch restaurants.
Sometimes a list can be promoted/featured by Google, but this only happens outside our control.

In theory, I also always liked the ideas of keeping lists in Maps. In reality, I only created a handful and never really used them. Unlike @MortenCopenhagen, to track edits, I created a spreadsheet, which also contains a link to the place in some cases (e.g. for road edits).
