Just a simple question. There seems to be no way of saving a draft post. I’d want to do that sometimes as a form of editing and proofreading before posting a longer post. How can I do this whilst at Connect online without the need to pre-write it and saving to another app, from which to copy it? Thanks.
Hello @janina1
That’s not the situation.
Factually, when we start creating a new post, the work always gets saved as a draft.
To see that, click on your profile icon and select “My profile”. Next, select the draft tab and here your work will be visible.
When we start replying some post, even that also gets saved as a draft and then becomes visible here too. So the draft of a new post may appear somewhere in between these draft replies.
Further, when we are editing our post, we can see a message at the bottom informing when the last draft was saved.
When we close a session and start a new after some time, the program warns. " You have a saved draft. Do you want to load that or discard?"
In this way, everything works perfectly provided our internet connection is stable.
The only limitation is, we can save only one draft for creating a new post.
If we change our mind and wish writing on something else, then we have to discard the draft and start afresh.
Thank you @C_T I have found that just now. Of course, there is nothing there at the moment because I deleted today’s attempt.
However, your reply presumes that we all know that.
To reassure us of this, I would like to see a minor change made to the way we save drafts. Perhaps an obvious nice blue button saying ‘Save draft’ added below, along with the Cancel, Preview and Publish buttons. Yes? That should solve the issue for us idiots, don’t you think!?
Appreciate your recommendation @janina1
You are welcome to post that as a suggestion in the idea exchange.
Nevertheless, that will be going back to the old days.
All modern web-based programs have done away with “save” function.
In this way, there is no “save” button in Google Docs, Sheets, Keep etc.
What we miss is the ability to create drafts while offline like the other apps mentioned above.
@C_T I do appreciate the concept having been a OneNote user for some time and even Keep Notes.
Just for myself, I will prepare a post and then just leave the Connect site, and see if that has saved a draft, and then check my Profile on my next visit.
Hi @janina1
When preparing a longer post with several photos, I always use Google Docs. Then it is easy to share a draft for comments and you can have more than one draft if you like. I don’t want to lose my time because of the less than optimal draft functionality here on Connect.
Google docs documents with photos can be copy-pasted to Connect with no issues.
Cheers

@janina1 I share your pain. There were some cases where I wrote a long, elaborate post, then something happened and all of them were lost after I click the submit button. Just want to add what others have suggested above, there’s a habit that I usually do before clicking on the ‘Post’ button, which is just to copy and paste (ctrl+c, ctrl+v) the whole thing. That’s probably the very minimum effort that you can do to ensure you have some sort of ‘backup’ for the post.
Hi @janina1 the automatic implied save vs. implicit save via button is an age old debate in website design with probably no one answer that suits everyone.
One thing that might be handy would be for Connect to show “draft saved” like gmail does which has the nicety of default saving protecting against crashes or accidental user actions but also gives you the implicit knowledge that there is a draft.
As more and more of our general lives moves to the web via things like Google Docs we become much more used to and indeed come to expect implicit save from our applications.

Thank you @PaulPavlinovich Your suggestion to show a quick pop-up telling us that a draft is saved is a simple and effective way of giving us confidence. At least to me. I may go to the Ideas Exchange and do a simple search for this topic. If nil result, then I’ll post.
Thanks @MortenCopenhagen re using Google Docs. I will investigate!
As at this moment, I haven’t checked to see if my test post has been saved in my Connect Profile, from my last visit.
@iyudhi Yes, you’re so right re the pain! Your idea is one I normally do too. But my expectation of a modern day forum such as LG Connect is for a simple thing like saving a draft post to be an automatic thing.
Yay! @C_T Just now I found my test draft post in my Profile. Yay! Thanks. :))
@MortenCopenhagen I found my test draft saved post in my Profile. Yay! :)) I am so easily pleased. But I’ll still follow up your suggestion. Thanks. Continually learning.
@iyudhi Just to let you know, my test draft saved post has been saved in my Profile…yay! :))
@janina1 Good to hear that the post was saved! Yes I’m aware of the auto save for draft, but sometimes it doesn’t work. So for my peace of mind, it became a habit for me to just do Ctrl+A , Ctrl+C before I’m submitting my post
@PaulPavlinovich Just now did a search. A few postings on this idea with mentions of the autosave function. Won’t bother, now that I know drafts are saved.
Does this still work for you? Does it matter desktop or mobile?
Connect isn’t saving drafts for me today and I have the time to work on a post, it’s been a little frustrating.
If Docs is the better option, I’ll gladly start using it to draft.
Please use Google Docs if you want to be safe. When writing new posts I always resort to Docs. For replies I just use the connect editor and hope for the best.
Cheers
Morten
Thanks for the tip
