Santorini is a pearl of the Mediterranean Sea

Hello! My name is Andriy Kholyava and I would like to tell about the most beautiful, to my mind, island in the Mediterranean Sea. It is called Santorini.

This is actually a group of islands that remained after the volcano explosion, which occurred around 1500 BC. It has been the part of Cyclades archipelago. The main island’s area is about 70 square kilometers, but the incredible number of beautiful landscapes of Greece and even of the entire Mediterranean are concentrated on this piece of land.

The shape of the island resembles a crescent. In the eastern, flat part of the island there are many beaches with black, white, yellow and even red sand. All of them are interesting in their own way. There is the town of Akrotiri where the remains of the Minoan civilization settlement were found .

In the western part of the island, the inner part of the crescent, there are two towns, as if glued to 300 m high cliff. They are called Oia and Thira.

They offer a magnificent view over the volcano’s caldera, and from here you can even see the two extreme points of the island. In this part of the island there are many cozy restaurants and cafes where you can try Greek and Mediterranean cuisine as well as admire the best sunset in this part of the world))))

The tourists almost from around the world come here to witness this phenomenon. There are sea port and the airport on the island. You can get here from Athens, Milan or Venice, or take a ferry from neighboring islands or continental Greece.

Hi @AndriyKholyava ,

Those are beautiful photos of Santorini! When did you have the pleasure to visit? What can you see/do there? Was it your first time? I can’t wait to visit Santorini and see the beauty myself.

I’ve heard only wonderful things about this place. What was your favorite thing about it?
