The Helderberg Nature Reserve is known mostly to the locals. Many a trail running shoe has begun and ended their journey up the Helderberg mountain. The chirping of birds is interrupted by giggling toddlers navigating their way around the quiet dam, where frogs and hedgehogs often reveal their hiding spots.
We found the spot close to our home by another Google Local Guide that visited it. It changed our lives!
We often arrive, driving past numerous vehicles, but once you enter the intricate woven hiking trails, you are more aware of your small position in this vast piece of mother nature. Our journey often concludes at a small lifted stage. A stage that can tell stories of symphonies under starlight and rock bands engaging with music lovers from all walks of life. Each enjoying their patch of grass, surrounded by their favorite tunes.
However, for us, the stage is where our children’s imaginations become alive and their love for dance electrifies their feet.
Every time I turn the ignition to return home, I know, at least I can return to paradise tomorrow.
