Hello Friends.

Sangrand is the first day of a month according to Nanakshahi Calendar (solar calendars based on Sun. ) & and Lunar (based upon Moon) Sangrand is the beginning of a new month according to the Solar calendar every month. Masya( No moon day)or Puranmashi( full moon day) is considered as the first day of a month according to the Lunar calendar every month.

On 14 January 2022 was Sangrand( Magh month) .

On Sangrand day we go to gurudwara every month.
Sangrand according to Nanakshahi this day month start with Hukham nama is read from Prakash of Sri Guru Granth Sahib this month Magh month was read.

On this day we cook Kada prasad,Khichdi ( Rice & green split dal),sarso ka saag makki ki roti.sarso ka saag makki ki roti.

One day before we celebrate Lohri.
Lohri - Our Elders say on this day night is longest & day is short on 13th January every year. From this day end of winters.

We celebrate lohri on 13 th January.Lohri is end of winter,welcome sun.

People take dip in holy water also. On this day,

We get up early morning go to Gurudwara take prasaad of Khichdi ( Rice & green split dal,) & Gajka, Rewri Popcorn, Listen to prayers have langar ( food).

We donate also khichdi, Gajka, popcorn. Some donate even sugarcane.

Maharashtra -Makar sakranti. Tamilnadu - Pongal.

Bengal - bihu.

Gujarat - Makar sakranti & kite flying.
The festival is known by different names in different regions.

This year again due to lockdown didn’t go to gurudwara celebrate Sangrand & lohri at home.

Very next day after Lahori we celebrate kite festival ( makar sankranti) that is one my favourite festival it’s really fun.

This is a beautiful write up @RosyKohli . Enjoyed reading it as much as seeing those delicious food pictures. I knew about Makar Sankranti and Bihu (do Bengalis in India celebrate bihu as well? I thought only the Assamese did that). In fact, in our country also we have seen the Sakrain festival in January. But I didn’t know the relationship between these festivals and Panjabi Lohri. Thanks for educating us with these information.

Thanks for your kind words, your most welcome at my place any time. Good to know u love kite flying.Yes til ladoo are good for health. Specially of North side. Due to lockdown no one comes from delhi other wise I tell them to get from there. Gajak, rewari. Now brother has gone to Amritsar will get from there.

Thanks for kind words, yes kada of Harminder Saheb is yummy in taste. They use thin wheat daliya.

Check my recipe of kada prasaad i use wheat flour.
