Sangiran of Indonesia - the homeland of Java Man

Visited Sangiran several months ago, a prehistoric site which is located at Sangiran, Sragen Regency, Central Java, Indonesia. It is just about 30 minutes away by car from Solo.

Captured from Wikipedia : …According to a UNESCO report (1995) “Sangiran is recognized by scientists to be one of the most important sites in the world for studying fossil man, ranking alongside Zhoukoudian (China), Willandra Lakes (Australia), Olduvai Gorge (Tanzania), and Sterkfontein (South Africa)…”

The site is about 56 km square, but we visited its museum only.
This is a modern museum, where fossils are displayed and dioramas impressively show us the life in prehistoric times (about 1.200.000 - 200.000 years ago).

Fossils of Pithecantrophus Erectus (which is now reclassified as part of species Homo Erectus) are found here at this site. This Phitecanthropus Erectus is also known as Java Man.

From remaining bones found at this site, a French sculptor could successfully reconstruct a Java Man, as we can see it in the Sangiran Museum.

A very worthy place to visit.
