One of the breathtaking views amongst hundreds of hiking trails in Saxon Switzerland is the famous Bastei Bridge. The Bastei is one of the most famous viewing points between the spa town of Rathen and the city Wehlen. It offers a wide view of Elbe Valley and the stunning Elbe Sandstone Mountains. The bridge also leads to the well-known ruin of the rock castle Neurathen, It is the largest medieval rock castle in the region.
The cheapest and easiest way to reach the Bastei Bridge trail is via public transport. Deutsche Bahn or DB (German Railway) is a well connected rail network connecting major cities and regions like Pirna, Rathen, Stadt Wehlen and Bad Schandau. The S-Bahn (regional train) connects Dresden and Saxon Switzerland every 30 minutes in day time. The best way to the viewpoint of Bastei Bridge is to get S-Bahn toward the direction of Bad Schandau and get off at Stadt Wehlen station. You can then take a public ferry to the cross the Elbe river and start your hiking just after a few minutes of walk. The hike is easy and short with a stunning viewpoint from top of the mountain.
