Collage of Parade shots captured by LG @jayasimha78

It is great to see parades are back again in San Francisco, after a two years break due to pandemic. This is the second parade I attended in San Francisco in 2022. Check out my post on San Francisco Chinese New Year Parade 2022

This year St Patrick’s Day was on March 17th, however this parade was held weekend before that on March 12th. This parade has a long history, in fact this was 171st parade held in San Francisco.

Here is the Map of the Parade Route. Parade starts at 2nd and Market Street at 11.30AM and ends at Civic Center Plaza.

Generally there is also a festival, bar crawls are also part of the celebration. You can see many folks dressed in green during the parade. Parade participants include San Francisco Police and Fire Department, BART, several elected officials, including San Francisco Mayor and senator, along with various Irish community groups, Marching bands, and of course bagpiper group.

Parade starts with group of policemen on motorcycles as shown above and another group of Policemen in horses as shown below.

@jayasimha78 Looks really festive and nice crowd too. We don’t really have much celebration of St Patrick’s day here in Malaysia, although we do have some Irish businesses here.

@Sophia_Cambodia Thank You!

Great documentation of the parade, @jayasimha78 - enjoyed this one as much as the Chinese New Year album. The biggest city-wide St. Patrick’s celebration I’ve taken part in is the celebration in Chicago and I think this SF level of celebration is more of my level :joy: .

@SP31 I am glad you enjoyed this post. Is the Chicago celebration much bigger?

Much, much larger and wild @jayasimha78 - city blocks wide, quite chaotic too :joy: . Traversing it all to see the river turn green is completely worth it, though.

@SP31 That’s cool, I had heard about the river turning in to green. I was not aware of the size of the celebration.
