Sakenan Temple - Find what makes you will always miss this temple

Sakenan temple is a temple that dedicated for Lord Baruna (Lord of the sea). This temple is believed as a place for a lot of member of Subak to wish a wealthy life. Subak is the farmer’s organisation in Bali. Long ago, the people who lived around this temple were mostly work as a farmer. A lot of farmers always pray for the plants on their fields. So, it’s not attacked by pests like mouse or grasshopper. The one who built this temple is still not recognized. Based on Usana Bali Lontar, this temple was build by Mpu Kuturan in the 12th century (the time of the reign of the king of the couple Sri Masula Masuli) but, based on Dwijendra Tattwa, this temple was built in the 15th century by Dang Hyang Nirartha (Padanda Shakti Wawu Rauh) who is a traveler Hindu Priest.

This temple is located in Serangan street, Serangan village, Southern Denpasar. Long ago, Serangan is a small island which was apart from Bali island. It’s made the pemedek (the people who go to pray to a temple) have to go to this temple by traditional wooden boat. Thanks to Goverment who did a reclamation and constructed a bridge which is conecting the Serangan island with the main island of Bali in 1996. Now the area of this island is 400 hectares (before reclamation was 112). Serangan island is also well-known as a turtle island because of the green turtle. You can also do a lot of things such as banana boat, diving, parasailing, jetski and watersport game in Serangan. Serangan was made from two words that is “sira” and “angen”. It’s mean whoever comes to Serangan will always miss this island!

The temple of this island, I mean Sakenan temple is also has a great view. A lot of beautiful trees, cows, white sand, and the sea. The name Sakenan just worth the place. It’s from word “sakya” which is means can be directly unite the mind. You will feel calm and find your peace in this temple. I think this temple is perfect for doing meditation.

We prayed only in one place inside the temple. As always I brought offering like pejati and canang. Also I brought flower and incence for pray. As it’s name I can’t forget the view of this temple. I will always miss this temple :D. I hope I can visit this temple next time, again and again!
