Sajek - A must travelling destination

Sajek is called as an empire of clouds. One of the highest peaks of Bangladesh for holiday destinations. Sajek valley is surrounded by mountains, dense forests and hilly grasslands. There are some rivers flowing through the mountains. The valley is located in Baghaichori, Sajek Union - the biggest union of Bangladesh. Sajek became a tourist destination after the 2000s. Lusai and Pangkhuya are the main aboriginal community of Sajek. After the 2000s, Bengalis are living some part of the sajek for business purposes. After being captured by armed forces, they are maintaining safety of the spot. There are several army and BGB camps in the sajek. You can visit Sajek all around the year. But never forget, there are some right moments for travelling to natural destinations. Best time for travelling in Sajek is the rainy season. Mostly from the beginning of June to the end of October.

The route of the Sajek is the main attraction of the place. To reach Sajek, you will enjoy 15 KM of journey through the hill on a curved path. You need to hire a Jeep car or CNG to reach the destinations. To enjoy the thrill of sajek, climb up the roof of the Jeep and feel the real adventure! But do not take a risk if you are a soft-hearted person.

From Khagrachari or Dighinala you can reserve a jeep (local name Chander Gari) and visit Sajek Valley in a day. The rent will be 5400 Bangladeshi Taka. One car can seat 12 people maximum If you go back on the same day, the rent will be 5400 BDT. And if you come from one night to the next day, the rent will be 9600 BDT. And if you stay for two nights, the car will cost around 12000-15000 BDT. One thing to keep in mind, this is a full group car rental, not for one person.

From Khagrachari you have to go to Sajek via Dighinala Army Camp. Later, Baghaihat Police and Army Camp No. 10 will be held. From there you have to get the permission to go to Sajek. Then Kasalang Bridge, two rivers merged together to form a new river, Kasalang. Later Tiger Tila Army Post and Masalang Bazar. After crossing the market, you will come to Ruilui Para, the first village of Sajek, which is 1800 feet high from the sea level.

You need to get up very early in the morning to enjoy the sunrise from the cloud. You will enjoy the mesmerizing experience of the sun rising experience from the Helipad. The white clouds will seem grey & gradually with the increase of morning lights, these clouds will become white again. You just need to close your eyes, take long breaths, keep calm to feel the whole scenario.

I started from Khagrachari in the morning (you have to arrive at the military/border guard check post by 10.30 AM) and arrived in Konglak at about 1.00 PM. I stayed in a resort located at the Sajek, named Everest Resort Sajek during the night. Left the place about 9.30 AM the next day for Khagrachari on the way back. Scenarios on both sides are excellent. Take Chander Gari (Jeep vehicle) for a better look and heavenly journey experience. Try to avoid foggy weather; you will not have a crystal picture of the beautiful, cascading hills and valleys. You may visit the beautiful falls in Hajachara soon before you arrive at the check post.

You should not miss the different local dishes at Sajek. It may bring out a lot of bucks from your pocket. But you will not get these traditional dishes outside of the Sajek. Try Bamboo chicken at least once in your Sajek experience. They are a bit expensive, but you will taste a different hilly chicken blend of the traditional spices. Try local vegetables, they are a good choice for vegetarians. If you take halal food, just ask the waiter before serving meat. They serve mostly pork as a red meat, Don’t expect beef from them. Just don’t!

Before reserving your resorts, Ask the local guides for a perfect cloud experiencing one. All the resorts have not a greater outdoors, veranda, 24 hrs electricity facilities and water supply. So you can visit Google Maps and read the review of travelers.
