Saint Sara statue in the crypt of the fortified church of Les Saintes Maries de la mer

Saint Sara, patron of the gypsies, whom they celebrate through their May 24h yearly pilgrimage in the village of Les Saintes Maries de la mer. This is a worlwide known event which attracts thousands of tourists and locals. After the church priest’s ceremony, they carry the statue of Saint Sara to the sea (where she came with the two saints, Marie-Jacobé & Marie Salomé -who gave its name to the village, from Palestine after Jesus Christ’s death) through the streets of the village.
