First of all, I must give information about the area we live in. The DMV area is a very special place in the United States. It is quite similar to the European countries, which have lots of cultural similarities but separated borders.
I’m sure you’re all familiar with the city of Washington DC, the capital of the USA, which is very important— mainly because of political and economic reasons. This city is much smaller than what people usually imagine, and, surprisingly, it’s not a part of any state. This city is a separated area between the borders of Maryland and Virginia.
As I mentioned above, this city is very small but very important. The city has a diplomatic vibe and very few people live in this city. About 6 million people, however, call the surrounding area their home. Thus, the city of DC and the surrounding areas are simply called DMV (DC, Maryland, and Virginia).
Now, one of the most interesting things about this area is the vibrant culture and the different food made by these different cultures and ethnicities.
One of the communities present in the DMV area is the community of Farsi-speakers, with hundred thousands of members. Iranians are one of the most well-known members of this community, and they have their own special foods, which I will mention below.
I think it’s very important for people to be able to find Iranian restaurants in this area with ease, but we can’t really find any reliable information on the internet about these places. I intend to present these restaurants with pictures and videos and make it easier for people to choose the place they want to visit. These restaurants have diverse and delicious menus and their customers are not just Iranians. A lot of Americans, Asians, and even Muslims visit these restaurants seeking for Halal meat.
Iranian kebabs are very famous and delicious, so are the foods made with rice and stews (khoresht) and even the seafood made with different seasonings and spices. In all of these dishes, from desserts and ice cream to kebab and steak, you can see that Iranians tend to use saffron and other healthy garnishes. This is quite interesting.
So next time that you crave for some awesome food with saffron in the DMV area or have a friend visiting you, pull up this guide and check out the pics/videos. Hope that helps to finalize your choice.
Below, I will share some photos of the food I’ve had, and you can also follow my list on google maps!
