Royal Bedroom ( Khwabgah), Fatehpur Sikri, UP, India.
Khwabgah is just not a Royal Bedroom of Great Mughal Emperor Akbar, indeed it’s a Royal Bedroom complex, as referred by some a Dream Palace.
It’s located on the east of Anoop Talao and connected with the Pavilion of Turkish Sultana. It’s also closely connected with the Diwan-I-Aam Jharokha, which is a unique balcony enclosed by stone screens.
It’s a magnificent two storey structure and ground floor is having a Royal Bedroom and Royal bed is built by Red sandstone of King Size. This stone bed is supported by four square pillars which are carved with Grape’s Vine, Pomegranates, flowers and Persian motifs. It’s quite high, according to the guide a sandalwood ladder provision was there and floor was maintained a continuous flow of Rose waters. To access this bedroom a magnificent arched corridor and arches are center pointed. It’s quite simple but elegant structure. Three stone steps are indicates a sign of door which is closed by stone masonry by the Archaeological Department. It was connected to the Royal Haram and was the secret passage for Queens. This Royal Bedroom was surrounded by Verandahs and covered corridors a sloping tiled roof and towards Anoop Talao one of the lintel of Veranda is engraved with The Sun over a Lotus. One large rectangular room with decorated large niches located towards North of the Bedroom was the Emperor’s dining hall or Juice House or Pantry. Another room closely connected with the Bedroom was the Akbar’s Library. He was not literate but he was having good readers and his collection was classical, as were included about twenty five thousands manuscripts and many important documents.
First floor is having two elegant rooms and terrace. Visitors can not access the upper floor. This entire structure is well planned and magnificent.
It’s a major attraction among the tourists visiting the World Heritage Site Fatehpur Sikri.
