Bipang Ambawang is the famous roasted pork originally from West Kalimantan that finally has their outlet in Jakarta.
You know what, because I want to share my culinary experience here in Connect, I have found out that the numbers of review for Bipang Ambawang in Jakarta is so much more than in Kalimantan!
No wonder that it is mostly crowded everyday, including the weekdays. They start to open at 10 AM.
That’s why on a sunny Sunday morning, we came here earlier and arrived at 9 AM. We were listed in the waiting list. It was already so crowded!
Finally, at 10 AM sharp, we could enter the restaurant area and get seated.
Their signature menu is definitely the roasted pork from the local village pigs that were roasted for 10 hours! We could see directly the roasting process that is surely catching everyone’s attention.
The roasted pork can be served with rice or fried noodles. They also serve variant of vegetables to accompany the roasted pork.
I tried Saporsi Boh, a single portion of white rice with bipang / bapi panggang (roasted pork), vegetables, sambal antuha (the spicy chili), kit lu (the sweet sauce made with sonkit), and te thow theng (clear soup). The bipang is cut thickly with a tender texture. The skin is crispy as well. It is tender inside, and crispy outsde. If you eat the bipang as it is, it only tastes plain, so that it is best to serve it with kit lu plus sambal antuha if you like spicy.
My brother ordered 1/8 portion of bipang. Half for dining in and half for takeaway. You know what, when we arrived at home after 10 hours, the roasted pork skin is still crispy as before! Well done and awesome!
Local Guides, have you had a similar meat dining experience where you could see the making process directly?
