Hey LGs
Long time no see due to my semester final examination. I hope that everyone is good by the grace of the Almighty.
The 200th meetup of BDLG is knocking at the door. Many of us eagerly waiting for the meetup. So do I.
Today I want to share my experience about the journey with BDLG.
Bangladesh Local Guides (BDLG) is a volunteer organization that helps to use Google Maps in the right ways & tries to improve the maps for the betterment of the people. It also helps to share our knowledge & experience to find the best way to help one another.
I have been using Google Maps since 2015 when I got my first Android phone. As I love to travel, I search the tourist spots in every corner of Bangladesh on Google Maps & visit those places virtually. I liked to do that thing a lot. After watching peopleâs reviews of any place, I gather knowledge about that place & go out for it.
In 2019, at the time of Corona pandemic, we are restricted to go out. Then one day on Facebook, I found the Bangladesh Local Guides group where there are so many local guides to spread their contributions and experience with one another. I was so excited to see that group because I thought that I was the only one in my area to do mapping but there were so many others like mine.
After watching their activities and rules/regulations from the Local Guides program, I became so much enthusiastic to be a member of the BDLG. And in June 2021, the dream came true with physical participation in the 161st meetup which was the 7th year Anniversary of BDLG at Project Hilsha
Bangladesh Local Guides carries out various social activities including accurate updating of information on various places on Google Maps, adding new places, adding roads, and the importance of Connect Forum with community build-up.
With the motto of âI see the way, I show the wayâ, this community has many social activities outside of mapping. As there are many people of different sectors & different ages in the community, we always get help whenever we need anything.
Moreover, through the scheduled meetup BDLG solves many social issues like helping the poor people, promoting small businesses, providing health camping, promoting sustainable energy, photowalking of any important places, showing the accessibility of wheelchairs in a place, celebrating womenâs day, introducing new tools/products of GOOGLE among the general people, etc.
Some of the activities of BDLG throughout the country (Pictures are collected from Bangladesh Local Guides Facebook page).
From the 161st meetup to this upcoming 200th meetup, I attend the 190th meetup about Connect Day. I also hosted the 193rd meetup about Introducing Local Guides @DUET at Gazipur.
I also got approval in Road mapper with the help of BDLG on July 2021. I have drawn 363 km of the road till now in different parts of the world.
As an undergraduate student, I wonât be able to present at every meetup due to my academic activities. But I always try to be active in the Facebook Group of the BDLG & keep track of their upcoming events.
Hope that at the upcoming 200th meetup, the BDLG community will set a new milestone with their activities. We will know more about Google Maps & Connect Forum along with other facilities of Google to make our country a better place to live in. Also wish that BDLG members will pass a great time with one another from the hustle and bustle of the city somewhere in Satkhira, Khulna.
I am proud to be a member of this great community.
The journey is still going on.
Keep me in your prayers.
Keep Contributing
