This post is about the road mapper. I want to disagree with some features of it.
I see two local guides on the road mapper website where i can’t find their profiles…
Selected local guides without any public criteria…this is unfair for all of us. Could it be more fair if the chosen local guides didnt appear on the website? I believe that the next local guides who have enough contributions will not feel good about this…
Personally i have 52 roads confirmed and at least 22 recent roads add waiting a long time to be confirmed…At total i have 50 plus roads waiting on the line to be confirmed…I think is a valid reason to be offended by this system…Yes iam also complaining about the confirming system…its too slow or even wrong some times…and yes of course i can’t easily accept the reasons this posts has written on.I will explain some reasons.
How do i know i wont get removed (banned) after XYZ number of not applied contributions.
How to raise my courage with so many roads still being reviewed…i talk about 5-10 months of waiting…and so many of them being rejected even they are correct from my perspective…The only reason i continue adding roads is because luckily i tried to add a road to a very familiar area and i recognised my added roads. They were HUGE quality of work compared to the rest of added roads . I got an emotional touch from that.
Yes i’am a local guide who spents huge amount of time drawing these roads. Yes i love the detail but i love the results.
Hi @Stranger9 although I understand your frustration, I would like to give you a piece of advice that stems from my own experience: please never, ever take decisions related to Maps and regarding selections personal. Most of the decisions are taken by algorithm, anyway, with some logic built into them. To some the results of that underying logic might seem unfair, wrong or downright stupid, but in the end we will never be able to find it out exactly as that kind of information is never revealed, in most cases for business reasons. But as I said: please don’t take it personal.
About the 2 local guides shown on the Roadmapper website: those are just 2 examples of LGs that have access to the program already, and the lack of personal details there is most likely to protect their privacy.
So could i get removed from local guides because of a big number or rejects an algorith does? Of cource i refer to the “unfair, wrong, call it however” rejections of any contribution an algorith will do.
It is truly sometime demoralising to be keeping up work without getting recognition or reward i understand. But looking at it from another perspective this is about the impact we make by the time and effort we put in to help others who do not have access, at the same time contribute to Google, not a competition between you and other local guides anyway.
I also have the early access to the tool and have so far contributed about 400 approved roads which sum up to more than 700km across 4 countries. I think the thing is not about adding too much on a single piece. I think we need to carefully watch out and give accurate drawing and skip what you are not so sure about, it is better than sending misleading map.
However, do not get discouraged, keep contributing. Courage!
@Stranger9 to my knowledge having a lot of suggested edits rejected does not automatically leads to suspension if the edits are not obviously going against the guidelines.
I have seen some local guides do get suspended by an algorithm ‘by accident’, but when they use the form to explain the situation, they then get reinstated.
Hi @Nuhuu i’am sorry if my post gave you the idea of competition. This is totally wrong and i understand that i should be on the program if i was competitive. Anyway, you said (the impact we make) this is the “taking” after a giving ( road adding ) so that is all about, giving and taking. I hope you understand that model of give and take.
Yes, I do understand. It is absolutely amazing if it turned to be of a mutual benefit and don’t get we should at least not feel entitled. Why I though you felt like a competition was because of the people you saw on the road mapper website and you showed like why them upon all your contributions.
Anyways I do understand now. We can still give without taking I don’t feel it makes us any less of who we are.
I completely understand. I have also added many roads and some I got an email with confirmation but most are just waiting to be confirmed. The roads that did receive an email are now up on Google Maps but I did not get credit for it as my “Local Guides” shows 0 zero roads added. This was months ago. Support your quest for better system and faster acknowledgement on efforts put forth.
It happens that more Local Guides have suggested a road and then you might not get the credit! I wish Google would be more generous and award due credit to more local guides for the same addition. It would be at no cost to Google and generate happier local guides! The same thing on Connect. When an idea gets implemented I suggest credit in the form of “Implemented”-status should be through at all related ideas.
Also, your missing credit for added roads could be because the local authorities submitted the information to Google.
