Avalahalli Forest is located towards the northern corner of Bangalore in already a green neighborhood of Yelahanka. The forest is home to several species of flora, fauna and birds and is Majorly covered by Eucalyptus trees and the other part is quite rocky and dry. The place offers you a beautiful hill-top view of the Hesaraghatta region.
Love the ambiance, light rays striking through eucalyptus trees is such a bliss
We could barely hear any noise except for the chirping of birds, discreet sound of snakes and rustling of trees. We saw a decent number of people hiking and cycling around the trails in the Avalahalli forest but it was not crowded enough to destroy our peace. Too tired after working out? Enjoy the beautiful view and soothing breeze on the rocks for a while.

Early mornings or sunsets would be ideal time to visit this place. We visited here early morning and really loved the chilled misty ambiance. You can also spot a number of peacocks around which is a perfect escape for nature lovers. Since this place is not well connected by public transport, I recommend one to reach here by a private vehicle or bicycle.

Surprise plan: Hesaraghatta Lake
After clicking pictures in the woods and spending peaceful time on the rocks, we decided to head back to the city. Just as I was setting up the route on Google maps, I realized that Hesaraghatta is just 6 Kms away. I personally l am huge fan of the countryside roads around Hesaraghatta!
This route led us the backside of the lake which goes through the beautiful campus of IIHR with blissful research farms and well paved roads. Hesaraghatta is a beautiful village on the outskirts of Bangalore with a number of tourist attractions such as the Lake, Grassland, Rocks, Nrityagram and the beautiful IIHR campus. This lake basically originates from the Nandi hills and was created in 1894 across the Arkavati river . The reservoir used to be a major source of water for Bengaluru earlier. The lake has recently almost completely dried up as a result of human harm. It is one of the biggest lakes you would witness and furthermore, the view it offers is just mesmerizing.
Guess what?
After crossing the beautiful bright blue bridge, we walked on the lake bank enjoying the splendid view of the lake. Don’t fail to spot a beautiful yellow tower in the lake which used to be the pump house. The walk down the lake bed gives you a relax feel. A break from the chaos of the city. If lucky, you could even spot some rare species of birds around. Magpie Robin, Paddy Field pipit, Pond Heron, Black Drongo, Brahminy Kite Juvenile, Kingfisher, Black Kites, Bushlarks are few birds which you could sight often at the lake.

How to Reach?
Apart from the infamous yet scenic route we took earlier, easiest access to this place is the Hesaraghatta Main Road. The curves and a mild blanket of mist this road offers in the early hours of the day makes it perfect for a weekend ride destination from Bengaluru. We took the latter route on our way back and finally had our breakfasts at 11 AM. What a better outing than the one which makes you forget your hunger. Right?
