There are rewards or more accurately Perks but really they are only a side benefit of being a Local Guide. The reasons that I am a Local Guide is because:
I use Maps and the contributions (Reviews, photos, edits) of other people and I would like to pay them back for their efforts through my own contributions
I want to make my local areas and places I visit better for the next person who looks
I want to make a lasting mark on the world
Of course I’m not blind that Google has the most popular Maps product in the world and uses Maps contributions to better understand us and target better content including ads at us individually but my own desire to help people overrides this.
Each perk only runs for a certain amount of time. It is your responsibility as a Local Guide to understand the limitations and keep yourself up to date.
