Revisiting the 90 Degree angle for photos and now you can use it for videos as well

Here is my link to the original post I posted in July of 2022

Comparing my stats from then I actually have reduced my number of photos from 8300 to under 8000 but My photo average has increased from 70,000 views to over 216,000 views per photo. The second photo I showed Gino’s Pizza had over 3 Million views and now has over 9 Million views.

So Yes the 90 Degree angle still works and still produces excellent numbers. The concept is still the same, try and stand at a 45 angle or at the corner of the building and the object is to get 2 signs of the POI. ( Google still loves it)

Here some more examples of 90 Degree photos

All of these photos are the featured or cover photos of the POI. and all of the have over 1 Million views each.

Couple of points, If you live in downtown areas or older cities or towns, or certain parts of the world you may not have the same opportunity to find possible 90 degree photos. They would be on a corner lot and of course they would be in the suburbs or newer areas.

I mentioned videos in the title. This concept works just as well for taking videos of the POI as well. Here are some videos that again are the featured or cover photo for the business.

I have been saying for a while that “videos are the future”, I am changing that to " videos are the future and the future is here now"

You don’t have to try and make a Hollywood production out of a Business storefront. Just take a 3 -5 second video as an example of the storefront. Remember to mute the video, there are too many traffic and other noises around. And absolutely no selfies( I had to add that)

If the storefront has unusual, or exciting features, or maybe gardens out of front,or patios, by all means pan your video to capture all.

Anyone notice that one of the POIs in the 45 degrees featured phots from 2022 is now a 45 Video from today?

If the opportunity arises try taking a 90 Degree photo and a straight on shot, post both and see which one does better. Let me know please. Have fun with this and keep on Guiding.

Thank you for these amazing tips @TerryPG straight out of your experience, time-tested, and proven :+1:

I especially like the one about a corner photo, I love these storefronts, but they are rare to find.

Excellent idea my friend. As soon as I saw the 90° title, I knew this was an article from my friend Terry. I still remember that first article you posted about 90° photos and I think that was about two or three years ago and it brought back much nostalgia as I was able to use your tip when photographing a plaza during Christmas shopping.
This is such a smart idea to apply this same methodology to videos.

Ich habe selten die Gelegenheit, enge Bebauung oder Platzmangel aber ab und zu gelingt mir so eine Aufnahme wie in diesem Video @TerryPG

Even if you hadn’t mentioned that 90 degree word @TerryPG I would have said that the angle is absolutely a complete summary of the place it captures so much of the place that’s it hard from any other angle. Even when adam ran a survey i preferred angled photo graphs and night shots over daytime and plain storefronts. The photo itself speaks for the completeness and quality :+1:t2:

Thank you my good friend @AZ_2021 I am so glad you tried it and yes it works for videos. I know you are the Video Queen and your how to videos taught me so much in the beginning. My video numbers are spiraling upward very fast.

Thanks @Trail_blazer I too am leaning more to slightly angled photos rather 100% straight on. I am not fully convinced yet but leaning. I have to to disagree with night shots. I still prefer sunlight daytime shots.

@TerryPG , great info as always. Can I ask if the videos are portrait or landscape orientation?

I’m assuming all the photos are landscape.

Thank you @ShreyaMusings

Hi @anon24291235 3 out of 4 of the featured videos are landscape and yes all photos are landscape. I have flipped back and forward on H/V for videos .

I realize 75% of people according to Google view maps on their mobile device rather than desktop or laptop, and a Vertical video fills the screen much better.

Now I base my shots on what I am shooting. Not a fan yet of the vertical shots for storefronts but 100% yes with foodie shots.

If I am making a creation or a highlight video the best results are Vertical.

Yes I guess I am still flipping back and forward.

Great tips as usual.
I try to get horizontal front when approaching from afar for maximum front capture. Getting straight shot is great if I have time for planned photo but many can when walking by. Those usually would be from the side (many have named street signs which is captured nicely from this angle).
If I can get a narrow door/inside view it would be by quick swapping to vertical as walking towards the entry. These are also frequently featured.

Again, using motion shots and separation can offer optional video snap or photo options (or let map decide what they need if not too spammy).
