Resistance in Poland

Currently I‘m in Poland! I‘m here quite often, but I‘m German.

Today I did visit the Museum of the Polish Home Armee http://www.muzeum-ak.pl/english/index.php .

Here is shown the history of Polish Home Armee in the 2 World War and after.

If you visit this place (especially as a German) , you will understand that beside the terror in the concentration camps, there has been an ongoing terror in the daily life.

So, there was created the Home Armee to fight against the fascism and for a free country. One of this solders you see on the picture above.

Here is a good summary:

What I learned today:

  • War is always terrible, but every person/ nation has the right for resistence

  • Also when a war has ended, it take many years, maybe some generations to find back to respect, but no doubt that this is possible

  • After the Second World War the solders of the Home Armee havn‘t been heros in Poland, with verser, they have been choosen to imigrate or been killed in the time of Stalinism.

  • remember is such important, as you learn for now and the future.

I‘m not a militarry fan, but for those who are I attach this picture as well.

Thank you for sharing this. I live in the United States, and I doubt I will ever make it to Poland. This is very interesting, and the information you provide in this post helps bring this recent history to life.

Hi @TorM

Very interesting stuff. I like that you learned something there.

Poland has a very sad history. It was divided and occupied many times but they kept their national pride and kept fighting (unlike us Czechs) and that is why I admire them.

As you say It takes many many years to find respect for each other after the war but yeah it is possible. I think that Germany and World War 2 (WW2) is proof. In my opinion it was already forgiven to Germany and Germany now enjoys the respect of other countries.

Sadly for Eastern Europe, one occupational power was just replaced by a new one after the end of WW2.

Hello @TorM Thank you for sharing this interesting post, it was good to read and see the photographs and I think it is inspiring that you as a German national took the time to visit this place in Poland and learn more about their story and write this post. Sometimes I think that learning of each others struggles and having empathy is another step towards healing and yes I think you are right that it takes generations before old wounds heal, this is also the case in Northern Ireland, young people today want peace.

Thank you all for your comments.

I‘m happy to share this with you.

In fact I have had North Irland in my mind when I did visit the place @Eire27 , as I know great people from North and the Republik. And as I‘m protestant and Poland is catholic.

Good that religion and nations are on localguideconnect only something to make it diverse and not devide.

Hello @TorM Yes when I joined Connect in August 2018 I thought the same thing, I think I wrote a post about it saying, if the real world was like our connect world then the world would be a wonderful place. On connect all people of all nations, religion and backgrounds are all in harmony with each other and respect each others differences🙂

Hello @FaridTDF ,

I like to visit both museums from the young history, as well from the very old. But when I visit some from history within the last 150 years, I can match it much better to the today envoirement.
