I need assistance regarding a category correction for a place I recently added on Google Maps.
Last week, I visited BOP Kotli Sattian (Bank of Punjab – Kotli Sattian Branch) and added this location to Google Maps. However, while creating the place, I mistakenly selected the category “Internet cafe” instead of the correct category “Bank.”
Now, I am trying to edit the category and change it to “Bank,” but my suggested edit is not getting approved.
I kindly request the Google Maps team, moderators, or experienced Local Guides to please review this issue and help update the correct category for this place.
I think ‘Bank’ is a restricted category to prevent scams and fraud. When you added the place as an ‘Internet Cafe’, it was approved because Google recognized it as ‘Internet Cafe’. I had the exact same issue last year when my attempt to add a local branch of a local bank wasn’t approved.
Sir, your experience is certainly greater than mine, so I’m sure there is truth in what you’re saying and Google may have restrictions around bank-related categories to prevent misuse.
However, my only confusion is that there are 3 other local banks listed in the same area, and their category is already showing as “Bank.” I did not add those categories myself; they were already listed that way.
That is why I thought the same category might also be applicable for BOP Kotli Sattian Branch. If Google’s policy does restrict this category, then I understand it may not be possible to get it approved, but I was just trying to understand why similar bank listings in the same area have the “Bank” category while this one does not.
The listings could have been added before the restriction, or the listing was added by the bank’s own authority through Google Business. If I may suggest, I think it is better to inform the officers or authorities at BOP Kotli Sattian to add their branch listing to Maps.
