This interactive YouTube webinar is facilitated by Google My Maps wizard @DavidTito and @JeroenM . My Maps is a powerful Google application that allows you to create tailormade maps. It uses the familiar Google Maps base map and allows you to add Points of Interests (POI) that do not belong on Google Maps and add cool graphics layers. Each POI has its own info card, but unlike Google Maps, you fully control its content making it a very useful tool for Local Guides.

In this Meet-Up, we cover the following subjects:

  • A showcase of a great example of a My Map: “the Local Guides Clean the World Map”
  • How To Create Your Own My Maps
    • Start with adding your own places
    • Cool things you can do with the Info-Cards
    • Customized Map Icons - Organize with Map Layers

Please note, the RSVP page has an error. I accidentally confused the two projects, Local Guides Clean The World, by @ErmesT and Local Guides Clean the Map, by @JanVanHaver . Apologies, for my mistake.

In case you didn’t know, @DavidTito is the man behind the impressive My Maps that documents the Local Guides Clean the World project.

Happens to all of us @JeroenM - and actually the picture I have used on the RSVP page of the #LGCTM meetup in Breda on Feb, 16 also contains an error (which I spotted 3 nanoseconds or so after submitting the meetup proposal of course).

@JeroenM Since this is YouTube live, how late can I RSVP? or can I just watch it without RSVP?

Dear @Ant_Bad_Yogi ,

It is better to RSVP and cancel your attendance when you know that you shall be unable to attend.
Sure, the YouTube broadcast will be public and no RSVP would be required to either participate LIVE or watch the replay HOWEVER by not using the RSVP you miss out on the announcements emails that could be sent by me via the RSVP system.

To answer the question, you can still RSVP on the day itself, until the RSVP system automatically closes it, I guess at the time the meet-up commences.

Absolutely! I logged on for the first time in years. I made a business photography run last night, and this morning I logged on to figure out a photo submission issue, and your name popped up with the activity feed.

It’s good to see that you are still doing the good work of teaching people! Well done! Maybe more impressive, you made Level 8. Woot. I don’t know how I’ll every get from 7 to 8. But Congrats, for real.

Just go with the flow. Every bit of contribution helps and hopefully most of us have lives, besides being Local Guides (lol). It will only be a matter of time before you hit Level 8 and then you could also ask: “Who cares?”, right?

Dear fellow Local Guides,

Tomorrow, February 15th at 2 P.M. UTC, David Tito and I shall be hosting the Webinar: My Maps - Like a Pro. To make sure all goes as planned, I would like your attention to the following.

The webinar shall be broadcasted live from my personal YouTube channel:

When we start going LIVE, the video-stream should be featured at the top of the list on my YouTube channel’s page with a special “Live Now” icon.

Don’t worry, if you are early and see that we were already live earlier, that was us doing a technical sound check.

To be able to engage through comments during the webinar, you need to be logged in to YouTube yourself with your Google Account. Make sure to use the “Top Chat” that is linked with the video-stream to enable me to see your chat messages during the session.

Please Check-In at arrival (starts at 1:50 P.M. UTC)
To register your attendance (for the RECAP), please introduce yourself via the comments at the moment you check in during the YouTube Live Event. Simply say your name, your LG level, and your country.

I shall start broadcasting 10 minutes before we are officially due to start our Meet-Up. This allows you to take your time to find the video live stream and check-in.

HOW TO ASK QUESTIONS:
When sharing a response to something, simply type your comment. When asking a question, please start with “#Q:” to make it easier for me to find your question amongst the comments.

JOINING ON CAMERA:
All participants are invited to join the conversation during the live broadcast on camera. This is however not a requirement. Please, do so during the Q&A section after the main presentation.

To connect with my YouTube live stream you simply click on the Guest Link that I shall share with you at the beginning of the broadcast. When you use a desktop computer all it takes is the YouTube handshake with your Google Account to allow the connection with your device’s camera and microphone.

When you wish to connect on a mobile device, you will need to install the Belive.tv guest app. This app is free and handles the camera and microphone connection with your phone. If you plan to join me via your mobile device, you are advised to install the Belive.TV app BEFORE clicking on the guest link.
