Hello,
I’m a Local Guide with active participation in Google Maps, mainly focused on photographing, reviewing, and documenting cultural and historical points of interest — especially on the island of Kea, Greece. Among the locations I have contributed are former industrial buildings, springs, old windmills, chapels, walking paths, and beaches — all accompanied by photos and descriptive information, sometimes including historical context.
Lately, I’ve received multiple emails from Google notifying me that some of my contributions have not been published or were removed, with the reason being that “the place might not exist.” Unfortunately, this has been happening repeatedly, even when the locations are real, visible, and in some cases well-known to locals or documented in public sources. In several cases, I’ve tried submitting the same place five to seven times, only to see it removed again.
I wonder if this is the result of an automated review system (algorithm) or human moderation, and whether there is a way to ensure such culturally important places are recognized as valid contributions. Historical and cultural mapping — especially in areas that are less tourist-developed — is just as valuable as reviews of restaurants or shops.
I would appreciate any clarification or guidance on how to properly submit these kinds of places to avoid continuous removals, despite having clear supporting material.
Thank you for your time and attention.
Best regards,
Anna_Akas
