Renting a Scooter in Goa: A Complete Guide

If you’re planning a trip to Goa, whether it’s during the peak season or the off-season, the best way to get around is by renting a scooter. Even during the off-season, North Goa can be quite busy with lots of traffic everywhere.

There are many scooter rental options in North Goa. The cost to rent a scooter typically ranges from INR 500 to INR 800 per day, depending on the season. Once you rent a scooter, make sure to take a 360-degree video of it, paying special attention to any scratches. Also, take a photo of the number plate because more than 75% of rented scooters are Yamaha Fascinos, and you want to make sure you can identify yours easily.

Here are a few important things to remember once you get your scooter:

  1. Fuel Up: Buy a 1-litre bottle of petrol from a nearby shop, as most shops sell petrol in bottles since there are often no petrol pumps nearby. The cost is usually around INR 120 per litre. After that, head to the nearest petrol pump and fill up the tank.

  2. Avoid Peak Times at Petrol Stations: Expect long queues at petrol stations, especially in the morning. It’s best to plan accordingly.

  3. Carry Your Driving License: Always keep your driving license with you. Wearing a helmet is mandatory for the driver as per Goan law, but not for the passenger. There are frequent police checks, especially near petrol stations, so don’t forget your license.

  4. Expect Police Checks: Police checks are common in many areas. They will usually check if you have a license. Interestingly, they often don’t check for drunk driving. If your co-passenger is a lady, police might not stop you at all.

  5. Drive Safely: Be cautious while driving. If the scooter gets damaged, you will be responsible for paying for the repairs.

During my trip, everything went smoothly because I followed these tips. Renting a scooter made exploring Goa easy and enjoyable. Have a great trip and drive safe!
